My philosophy

Why school?

Your child may or may not have ever asked this question — but without an answer they may find themselves lost as they go through their school days.

So I approach it from your child’s point of view and help them answer that question, because when you know “why” you are doing something the “what” and “how” of doing that thing become so much more clear.

Armed with that knowledge your child will become highly motivated to make school work for them, to get what they want out of it — leading to your child’s overall success.

Throughout my teaching career, I made it my mission to make sure my students always felt safe, seen, and valued. However, in a classroom setting there are limitations on what a teacher can do.

At Clothier Tutoring I am able to truly fulfill that mission for your child and, in addition, give them one one-on-one attention using a personal, holistic approach tailored to your child’s individual needs and learning style — all while remaining focused on the ultimate goal of preparing your child for college, career, and citizenship, or whatever else they value most.

Testimonials

"When I think about my favorite teacher, Mr. C. immediately comes to mind. Mr. C. is a great teacher that can meet students where they are at, and always treats his students with kindness and respect. Mr. C  makes learning an experience with his lovely personality and teaching style. Mr. C. makes a warm environment where students can feel comfortable and safe going to him with questions and even advice about other issues. He is a great teacher and I am eternally grateful I had him as one of mine."

—S.O., student

“Fondly referred to as Mr C., Brett is one of those teachers who manages to balance discipline and fun. His classroom was always a safe and happy place to learn. His lessons were well organized, and his instructions were clear and engaging. Brett encourages students to think and solve their own problems, while providing additional support when needed. Brett clearly enjoyed seeing children learn and succeed. I asked my now 14-year-old daughter what she remembered most from her time in Mr C.’s third grade class and she came up with the following – ‘It was fun, he was helpful, learning my times tables (!), listening to him read to us, lining up to leave the classroom in an orderly fashion, his supply of classroom snacks!’ I have no hesitation in recommending Brett as a tutor and private educator.”

“Brett is a fantastic teacher. His students know he is on their side. Whether he is kicking around a soccer ball with a student while talking math, or talking about the physics of bike riding, Brett finds ways to connect with students and their interests, and tie it into curriculum. Brett’s years of experience in the classroom and his in-depth knowledge of social emotional learning gives Brett so many tools to help students overcome barriers to learning. His kindness and compassion helps students feel seen and heard.”

"I've had the pleasure of being Brett's admin and support while he was a 5th grade teacher. He is an engaging, student-centered educator that builds strong relationships which result in positive outcomes for students. He is a strong communicator that knows his standards and could help students fill in any educational gaps they may have, while building their confidence."
